Approach

A Different Kind of Therapy

Many therapy approaches focus on symptoms or techniques. While helpful in the short term, they often do not address the underlying causes of recurring issues. My approach is different. We take time to understand how your past shapes your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Instead of focusing only on what is happening, we explore why it happens. This process helps clients recognize patterns they might not have noticed before, allowing more thoughtful and consistent responses.

Who This Work Is For

This work is for those who are curious about themselves and willing to look deeper. You may be facing relationship issues, communication challenges, anxiety, or a general sense that something is not working, even if you cannot fully explain it. Many clients seek to understand themselves, not just manage symptoms. “what doesn’t make sense logically usually makes sense emotionally, relationally and historically If this resonates with you, my approach may be a good fit.

A More Personal Experience

After working for decades in mental health and addiction agencies, I knew I wanted to structure my private practice to be more relaxed, client focused and accessible. I limit my case load in order for you to have access to me directly and the ability to schedule an appointment for the same day or the next day in moist cases. My appointments are not back to back, so if our session goes 65 minutes, you won’t feel rushed. I want to honor the steps you’ve taken to get to therapy. Your investment of time, money and energy is not wasted on me. i am committed to providing you with an experience that is safe, supportive, valuable and at times light hearted. I use handouts, draw on my white board and provide you with a notebook so you can take notes during, and after our session. Self reflection happens all the time, let’s talk about what you’ve been thinking.

The Philosophy Behind the Work

At its core, I believe understanding leads to change. Rather than avoid difficult thoughts or emotions, we explore them to understand how your patterns developed and continue to affect your life. Over time, you may notice:

Rather than avoid difficult thoughts or feelings, we safely wonder about them and how they might have been more useful in a different time and place.
