Therapy that helps you understand.
You may seek therapy because something in your life feels off. You might feel stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in unchanging patterns. Therapy can help, but not all approaches are the same. My approach goes beyond symptom management. I help you explore what is happening beneath the surface, offering insights into deeper patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. This understanding supports natural, lasting change, which is not always possible with mere behavioral techniques. I work with adults and couples who want more than standardized advice or quick fixes. If you seek genuine clarity, direction, and insight, my approach offers a personalized depth many clients find transformative.
Individual Therapy
Typically, clients are seen for an hour or if they are traveling from a longer distance, they may elect to have a 90 minute session. Clients find it most useful to meet every week initially for a few weeks to capitalize on the momentum of beginning therapy.. This helps us develop a rhythm and allows me to better know you. After a few week, client may elect to meet every other week, often on the same day at the same time. Flexiblity is a key aspect of my business model, we’ll find a time that fits for you.
Couples Therapy
You’ll find our time to be inviting and safe. It is difficult to tackle issues as a couple and I’ll be supportive and curious to better understand what struggles bring you in and what strengths you both possess to address them. I’ll remain neutral and understanding and provide you both with a road map about how we can address your concerns. I’ll use handouts, draw on the white board and if you’d like give you homework! I encourage clients to take notes during and after sessions to aid in integrating information and your reflections.
New Relationship Exploration
My approach is aimed at helping you both understand your selves and the process of mate selection. It’s a fascinating area and we will explore your relationship with respect and curiosity. We will identify the needs both of you have in relationships and what might be some struggles ahead. Some couples use this as a way to safely discuss what might otherwise be more awkward or uncomfortable. Finances, goals, potential in laws and intimacy are just a few of the many topics we can cover. We might use handouts, questionnaires and book recommendations.
Personal Growth
Clients often want to know about how they can get to the next level, whether in business, their relationship, family of origin issues, or attaining a personal goal. Personal growth CAN be more behavioral, and achievement focused. We can identify what might be keeping you from reaching those goals and free you from whatever message is holding you back.
Consulting and Training
In addition to providing therapy, I offer consultation and training to agencies to address team dynamics from a systemic lens. Clinical areas related to family therapy, addiction/co-dendency, and case consultation are available. Presentations related to relationship issues, trauma-addiction and shame, family of origin dynamics and attachment issues are examples.
Areas of Focus:
My background in family systems theory, the impact of one’s family of origin , addiction, shame mood regulation allow me to address and connect what may appear to be unrelated issues. The developmental focus of this way of thinking allows for an incredible breadth of application.
What to Expect:
I provide therapy in a professional, respectful, flexible and personalized manner. We often start with the 30 minute no cost session or phone call. If you’d like to schedule your initial therapy session, I’ll ask for your email and send you the paperwork electronically through my electronic health record portal called Simple Practice. I’ll also send you the time and date of our session, the location, my phone number and a brief note of support. When you arrive, we can take a few minutes to do a short relaxation exercise. You’ll be given a notebook to use to take notes during and after our session. Write down any thoughts, reflections, or questions and bring those to the session. I’ll ask what you’d like to discuss and I’ll always have questions to ask for us to reflect on. Always feel free to ask questions of me, about my model, or any observations you have had. Most change happens outside of the therapy office when we reflect on our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I invite you to be curious without being critical of yourself. We will wonder out loud, together in a safe environment. At the beginning of each session, I’ll ask what you’d like to address. I will take notes and will keep track of what we have discussed to promote continuity throughout the process. I want you to experience that your time is being honored. I’ll allow time at the end for you to jot down notes and ask if there is a topic or direction you’d like to take for our next session. It’s perfectly fine if you aren’t sure. I’ll aways have an agenda for our sessions. Some clients like handouts, book recommendations, or homework, let me know it that is for you.
